A cure for death?

cure

” Death is real, death is inevitable.”

Those were the 6 words my husband simply said as our conversation ended the day his first patient passed away under his care.

A few months into marriage, my husband’s grandfather passed away. A few months later, the beloved three year old daughter of a pastor at our church went home to be with Jesus after an intense and heartbreaking battle with cancer. In all rawness, death makes me angry. Death really sucks. How dare it rip families apart. How dare it shatter dreams and break so many hearts. How dare it cause so much pain…

So.. Is There a Cure?

I am constantly reminded that death was not in God’s original plan for His creation. When God created the universe, he said everything was GOOD. “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good…”- Genesis 1:31. Death is the opposite of anything good, so therefore God did not create death.  However, when sin entered into the world through man’s conscious choice to disobey God, death came as a result. Death in the physical sense and also the spiritual sense, separating us from our creator. We as tainted creatures, could never stand before a holy, perfect, and just God and survive. In the Bible, it says plainly, ” For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

However because of His great love for us, the perfect, holy, and just God ordained the perfect cure. Through this cure, we see His great grace and mercy towards us.

Just like the medicine and technology that has been invented to cure physical diseases, the God of the universe came up with the perfect medicine to cure our spiritual disease. This cure is through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. ” For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 The perfect sinless life of Jesus Christ imputed on us, He took the punishment we rightly deserved by dying on the cross, and through His resurrection proved that He is indeed the living God and offers us the power to live as new creations.

Although we will all physically die, our souls live on in eternity. We are either eternally spiritually separated from our creator, or we live eternally in perfect relationship with our God. The eternal life that Jesus brought is more than just living on forever.. it is about being alive! To truly live! John 17:3 defines eternal life as “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”

Jesus did not promise an easy life, he did not promised a pain free life when one gives his or her life over to Him, but He sure did promise assurance of the forgiveness of our sins and restoration of our relationship with the almighty God, securing our place in heaven and truly living with Him for all eternity.  Nothing, not even death can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord ( Romans 8:38-39). In Christ Jesus, death has lost its sting. Death has no victory.

Friends, I know this may not be the cure you were hoping to read, but this cure is way way better than any physical healing that exists. It deals with our souls, our relationship with the God of the universe. He loves you so much, He cares for you, He knows the number of hairs on your head, and He knew you while you were in your mother’s womb. This God wants you to know Him as well. To be reconciled to Him, to live life abundantly presently and in eternity.

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or have been seeking and curious about who Jesus is. I would love to walk the journey with you.

Thank you for reading!

Much love,

Carrie
